At Sallye B. Mathis, we strive to create an environment where lifelong learning is valued, excellence is expected and improvement is continuous. Volunteers in education promote and support this concept. Caring adults positively affect students' attitudes and improve academic results. Volunteers are important and they send an important message to students.
Volunteers have played and will continue to play an important and valuable role in education. Students, teachers, administrators, parents and the community benefit from the work of people who donate their time and resources to support the school.
As a volunteer, you will find many rewards. You will find yourself filling the needs of students in a role that is harmonious with your own talents and interests. Voluntary assistance in the education of students of all ages offers ways for you to contribute to your community while, at the same time, experience a deep sense of personal accomplishment.
In Duval County Public Schools, all volunteers are required to complete an application and undergo a criminal background screening conducted through the Community and Family Engagement Department. All Principals have the decision-making authority regarding volunteers and volunteer opportunities at the schools. Approved volunteers are issued cards identifying them as authorized volunteers.
